Feng Shui 2016: Do’s and Don’ts in Home Design and More before the Chinese New Year

The Chinese New Year is fast approaching, and those who adhere to the principles of feng shui should keep in mind some of the do's and don'ts if they want to attract the right elements in their homes and lives. Here are some of the feng shui 2016 tips to keep in mind.

Feng shui diva Robyn Bentley has come up with a list on her site of the specific things to do and avoid before and during the Chinese New Year. According to her, before New Year's Eve, it's advisable to clean the entire house to make room for good luck and get rid of ill fortune from 2015. After cleaning the entire house though, you must also keep away all the brushes and brooms in your abode, as suggested on her list.

When it comes to home décor before the New Year's Eve, Bentley suggests adorning the house with plastic firecrackers to keep away "evil spirits" and bad luck. Instead, decorate your house with live blooming plants for rebirth and new growth as well as oranges and tangerines which stand for abundant happiness.

On New Year's Eve itself, she suggests opening every door and window at midnight, as part of feng shui practice and belief. Meanwhile, on New Year's Day, some of the feng shui 2016 don'ts she listed include sweeping the floor as it may turn away good luck and using knives and scissors as it signifies cuting off your fortune.

Feng Shui Beginner also listed some feng shui 2016 tips which include spring cleaning of the house before the Chinese New Year and preparing even-numbered mandarin oranges for friends and relatives. Among the things the site suggested to avoid is breaking plates or bowls during the New Year, which signifies bad luck in feng shui.
