Airbnb Lists Former Celebrity Homes for Rent to Entice Travelers

Lodging rental website Airbnb reveal list of homes previously occupied by famous personalities and Hollywood stars. Fans and followers can now feel what it is like to sleep on beds where celebrities got their snooze.

According to The Straits Times, Airbnb recently published some of their rental listings that were once home to celebrities and popular personalities. The company said that not all the properties they list give away voluntary information about its previous occupants and owners. However, J.J. Chai, Airbnb managing director of India and Southeast Asia, said that they verify homes that are reported to have famous dwellers in the past. Houses that were once owned by celebrities increase their appeal to travelers and renters owing to the novelty of staying where the rich and famous once slept.

Chai said, "It's about being able to immerse themselves in the soul of a neighbourhood... Anyone can stroll down the Walk of Fame along Hollywood Boulevard, but staying in the home of a celebrity will add a whole new flavour to your stay in Los Angeles."

Emily Blunt's residence in Hollywood Hills is available to rent for $733 a night, while Denzel Washington's Ocean View house in Malibu will set back renters at least $725 for an overnight stay.

Meanwhile, in a report by International Business Times, a study done by Penn State University's School of Hospitality has shown that many landlords in the U.S. are using Airbnb to turn their homes into illegal hotels.

In the study, it was discovered that in San Francisco alone, there has been recorded revenue of $44 million from September 2014 up to the succeeding year on the same month. In addition, there were also about 1,600 property owners and operators who made $62 million in Airbnb transactions. The report covered 12 U.S. cities with 2,675 landlords and a generated income of $378,173,374 in the stated time period covered by the study.
