$1 Auckland House Finds Buyer After About Four Months in the Market

In September 2015, Iliyas Adam from Auckland wanted to build a new house on his lot in Potter Avenue in Mt Roskill, but that would mean first demolishing his old brick and tile 3-bedroom house and everything with it such as native timber, brick cladding, kitchen, bathroom, hot water tank, stove and other trimmings. According to Stuff, The demolition would cost Mr. Adam $3300, but then he thought someone else might be able to use the house. He then listed the house on Trademe for $1 and whoever buys it would have to relocate the house.

Surprisingly, the $1 Auckland house was not snapped up instantly. According to Domain, it took more than four months before a buyer was found. Iliyas Adam has confirmed that his former brick and tile state house in Mt Roskill has finally found a new home.

In December, according to Stuff, the $1 house with a retail value of $155,000 was still on the listing site. Mr. Adams had said that if there were still no takers he would go ahead with the demolition. And just when he was about to go with the latter, someone showed up with an offer. Hawke's Bay-based Relocate Homes NZ owners Shannon and Hayley Tawhiti are buying the house for their latest project.

Shannon and Hayley will be removing the house from its original site, without any cost to Adams. The house will then travel to an island and to a Hawke's Bay site. It will be rented out to a Hawke's Bay tenant, for $300 a week, after repair and renovation.

Tawhiti said it was better that the house will be given new life and will be used families who need it rather than being demolished. It was a good timing that they were in Auckland at the moment. On the other hand, Adam is happy that he can soon move forward with his plans of building a new modern home.
