When to be Reasonable, Not Emotional in Real Estate

"Mind over matter." We must have heard this adage many times already yet whenever things do not seem to go our way, we give in to emotions and we veer off track on what and how we supposed to feel, making room for mistakes.

It's okay to be emotional but emotions should be used at the right time. However, as far as real estate is concerned, you should not make a room for emotions as what Real Estate ABC implies, instead be reasonable.

So, in real estate, when should we be reasonable rather than emotional?

When we make decisions

Since real estate is no monkey business, you need to make rational decisions in every negotiations. When you decide to sell your property, use reasonableness and not emotions as what Real Estate ABC advises. While it is true that there has been a level of intimate connection that has developed between you and your home, you need to cut the strings, otherwise, you will find it hard to let go of your beloved home. Hey, mind over matter.

When you need major repairs or renovations

If you are a tenant who needs a more comfortable stay in a house, let this be known to your landlord. Rather than keep silent for fear that your landlord might disagree with you and won't grant your request, be firm and reasonable. If you use your weak emotions by giving in to doubts and fears, then you will end up suffering from the inconvenience of that house you are spending so much of your resources on when the house can never be yours in the first place, unless you are into rent-to-own. Rather than shy away, use your privilege to request, demand and require your landlord to do certain things for you as what James W. Splindler, author of "Negotiating a Fair and Reasonable Real Estate Lease," suggests via Aig Claw.

When you help your buyer

While you say goodbye to your house, you are actually helping your buyer find a good home. Your emotions should not be at play in this regard. The very day the buyer looks at your house, he also imagines your home as his. So, put that emotional touch away and help them welcome your house and make it their own. Real Estate ABC advises you take your own photos off your walls, remove your trophies and clean up your kitchen. By doing so, you are helping your buyer embrace a new beginning while you are also helping yourself let go of what you once had. Again, mind over matter.
