Kitchen Design: Is it Time for You to Go Matte Black?

Black is slowly becoming the choice of color for some households because of the sophisticated and timeless look it brings to a room. When it comes to your kitchen, however, should you consider going for a matte black theme?

Going for matte black in the kitchen adds a certain layer of sophistication and appeal. It does not have to be the color of the entire room, but having matte black cabinets or fixtures can help accentuate other visual pieces in the kitchen.

Apartment Therapy noted that because black is a versatile color it can be incorporated into pretty much any interior in various ways. Matte black cabinets, when placed against stainless steel appliances can immediately bring about a contemporary look and feel.

Houzz also noted that black kitchen cabinets offer a "rich and timeless look" that can add "undeniable dynamism" to a room. While some people may be taken aback at the thought of using black for their kitchen cabinets, countertops or fixtures, proper choice and usage can help accentuate a room.

The publication then offered several examples in which black cabinets can be used in kitchens. For example, lower kitchen cabinets may be topped with a gray counter. Colorful pieces such as a yellow chair may then be added to the room for an additional contrast.

Black cabinets, when paired with artfully decorated wallpapers or rugs, can immediately add more drama to the piece. Black cabinets may also be accentuated by adding bronze accents if you want to achieve that Old-World look.

White cabinets with a black-based island are also a good choice for playing around with contrast, especially for those who do not wish to use black to paint their cabinets.

The thing with black color, however, is that dust becomes more noticeable. Frequent wiping, therefore, is a must if you wish to go for a black kitchen. Opting for a matte black kitchen is another thing to consider, as matte surfaces often require more meticulous cleaning.
