1932 Art Deco Miami Home Turns into a Contemporary Haven

Having founded the Avenue Road, a contemporary furniture showroom in Toronto, Stephan Weishaupt, is more than knowledgeable of interior design. So when he bought a 1932 Art Deco property in Miami, he hired some of the best in the field like Christophe Delcourt, David Weeks, and Oscar Niemeyer. Their work was so superb that the home instantly became Weishaupt's haven of relaxing and entertaining guests. He shares, "Aside from the design elements, it's also a space where I can connect with friends and family, and it's important to me that they feel comfortable in my home-that really helps me relax."

The original Art deco architecture of the house can be seen through the living room. There are fluted columns, and terrazzo covered floors. On one corner is a game table which the owner personally designed. Weishaupt takes advantage of his travels to explore vintage accents for his home.

His kitchen has a futuristic feel, soft blue cabinets and tables fill the area, while a a bright yellow transparent storage hangs in isolation, which serves as an accent to the otherwise monochromatic color scheme.

The bathroom has an interesting printed wall which the owner personally chose. He reveals, "I really wanted a strong, masculine bath, and the stone was important to set this tone."

One of the rooms serves Weishaupt's office, which according to him, is inspired by Trevor Paglen's Drone series, which is a collection of photographs artfully shot through a camera drone.

Weishaupt considers his Miami house as a place for rest and relaxation, and a huge part of his R&R includes working out. So he turned one of the rooms as his personal gym. He shares, "This fitness area is set away in the corner of the house, and having it be secluded allows me to focus on nothing else."
