'Suicide Squad' Members, Movie & Cast: Margot Robbie to Play Harley Quinn; Why She's Perfect For The Role [Rumors]

Actress Margot Robbie has reportedly signed on to play Harley Quinn the villain in upcoming film, "Suicide Squad." The Australian star will play Quinn, the lover/ ally of the Joker, rumored to be played by "Dallas Buyers Club" actor Jared Leto, reports The Collider

If the rumors are true, Quinn will be directed by "Fury" filmmaker David Ayer and take on the role of Dr Harleen Frances Quinzel, a psychiatrist at Gotham City's criminally insane institute, who eventually becomes her boyfriend's partner in crime. The character was introduced in "Batman: The Animated Series."

The character's backstory, per USA Today is as follows: "Dr. Harleen Quinzel, a psychiatrist, interned at Arkham Asylum, where she analyzed the Joker. She fell in love with him, helped him escape, got herself a joker costume, became besties with Poison Ivy (who gave her injectables to boost her strength and speed) and shortened her name to Harley Quinn (like a harlequin jester). Since then, Harley has had an abusive on-again, off-again relationship with the Joker, and has become an anti-hero in her own right."

The site further outlined why Robbie would make the perfect actress to play the role.

  • She can be sexy and bad at the same time . Robbie, as an actress from the film, "The Wolf of Wall Street," know how to play the role of a badboy's girlfriend. Who can forget how Robbie oozed with sex appeal and made Leonardo DiCaprio's character utterly head-over-heels with her.
  • She's in great shape. Robbie is a well-known fitness buff who is skilled in gymnastics, acrobatics and hockey. These skills and tip-top physique will be a great asset for the role.
  • Robbie and Jared make sense. Both actors are incredibly skilled and just look good together. Both have a lethal attractiveness perfect for the role of menacing villains.

Other projects tied to Robbie include 2016' "Tarzan" where she stars as Jane as well as "Focus" and the sci-fi flick "Z for Zachariah". Hopefully, Robbie will have the time to fit in a massive project like "Suicide Squad" because she's a pretty strong candidate for the role.

The plot of "Suicide Squad" follows a group of villains who undertake a dangerous mission under an agreement with government that their sentences will be reduced, wrote The Independent

"The Dirty Dozen with supervillains," was how writer-director David Ayer described the squad, quoted IGN

The DC Comics based movie, "Suicide Squad" is confirmed for release in 2016.
