Home Design 101: Do You Have the Wrong Area Rug?

Choosing the right rug is of equal importance as finding the best lampshade for your living room. Having one immediately adds another layer of definition and aesthetic appeal to any part of your home, which is why it is important to find the best area rug for any space.

So many questions can run through one's mind when looking for the best area rugs. One has to consider a lot of things, which can immediately leave one feeling overwhelmed when faced with a multitude of rugs to choose from.

"Area rugs are a tricky business: the right one can finish a space to perfection, while the wrong one can make a room feel awkward or unfinished," Apartment Therapy stated. Therefore, one must put a rug's color, pattern, and size into consideration when scouting for the best one.

According to the aforementioned publication, it is important to consider the room's color when choosing an area rug. Say for example, if you have painted your living room with a simple color, then choosing a colorful area rug with patterns can immediately boost the look of your space.

If you already have painted your room with bold colors, then it would be wise to opt for a simpler rug with neutral colors. HGTV, however, recommended a different way of choosing an area rug.

Instead of choosing an area rug that is based on the room's existing patterns and colors, the outlet noted that one may also look for an area rug beforehand. One can then choose from a variety of furniture and decorations based on the rug's features.

Size should also be taken into account. An area rug should easily fit right into the size of your seating area, which means that your rugs must be placed underneath sofas and chairs.

If this is not possible, try to choose an area rug, which can at least cover the front feet of your furniture.
