So what would your money get you out of London's real estate market? Londonist reports of the cheapest property buys in London.
It came as nice news just after Christmas: a studio in Clapton was for sale for £75,000 and was dubbed as London's cheapest flat. The listing can no longer be found on the web, probably because the property which comes at 39.7m2 or four meters by ten meters, had already found a 'lucky buyer'. Now, this listing has got everyone thinking of what other 'cheap' properties are there in London's market.
By some religious research, and after ticking parking garages (there is one in Islington for £125,000), minicab offices, shared ownership flats and retirement-only properties, it turns out that the cheapest property option you can find in London is a houseboat.
If you fancy acquiring currently the cheapest home available in London, you should be looking at the Carpe Diem which is a 40ft houseboat in Brentford which you can purchase outright for £60,000. Now, if you want a much fancy address like St. Katherine Docks, the Bavaria 44 - which is the same price as the Clapton flat but is bigger extra 3 square meters - can be yours for £75,000. But it's important to remember that staying at the marina could mean an extra cost of about £10,000 a year.
There's also one in West Ham, a flat above a nursery that is listed for £95,000, and already has an offer at £101,000. Two studio flats in Harringay that were supposed to be sold in October at auction for £100,000 each are back in the market. There is no data as to the size of the property.
Another listing, a 3.77m x 3.92m studio in Ilford is up for grabs for £100,000. Looking at its exterior, it seems like a converted garage, and locating it on Street View as futile.
