Ghostbusters 3 Movie - News: Cast and Director Updates

More and more details crop up to suggest that a third Ghostbusters movie is not only happening but that a cast has also been named a bit early. ABC news points out that "Ghostbusters 3" director Paul Feig is eyeing a predominately female cast for new movie and may have have an idea for his top picks for the movie.

Feig reportedly tweeted, "It's official. I'm making a new Ghostbusters & writing it with @katiedippold & yes, it will star hilarious women. That's who I'm going to call."

Bill Murray, the star of the first two Ghostbusters films and who has never been shy about expressing his approval for a new installment in the series, was quick to speculate on who he wanted to see.

"Melissa [McCarthy] would be a spectacular Ghostbusters. And Kristen Wiig is so funny-- God she's funny!" Murray said in an interview with the Toronto Star in early September. "I like this girl Linda Cardellini a lot. And Emma Stone is funny. There are some funny girls out there.

It didn't take long for several of those women to respond to Murray's shout outs.

For her part, Mindy Kaling has already cast herself in the movie in her 2011 book Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? When questioned about the movie by the magazine Vulture, she instead decided to play it cool.
"I love Paul and I would never deign to take up his time by lobbying," Kaling said. "It's such an amazing movie, that the whole are of speculating on it is .... I think it's out of my pay grade."

Star of the Amazing Spider-Man series, Emma Stone, was similarly calm when questioned by the same magazine about Murray's statement. "That's very nice," Stone said. "I want to see Bill Murray in an all female cast."

Perhaps the most over top excitement came from Gillian Anderson, former star of X-Files. In a Reddit Ask Me Anything session she said, "Paul Feig, cast me now! Start a Twitter petition! I'm free!!!!! I'm free I'm free and I'm funny!"

McCarthy is also a likely one to star since she has made three movies in a row with Feig including the upcoming "Spy."

A sequel to Ghostbusters with the original cast was developed for years that would have reunited the four original paranormal investigators with Ivan Reitman directing. Unfortunately, plans for this film fell through and the plans for the movie were completely scrapped after original series star, Harold Ramis, died in February.
