NYCC 2014 Guests & Exclusives: Wonder Woman '77 at 'Download This'; Features Lynda Carter and Lyle Wagner

Good News for DC Comics fans! The company announced at the New York City Comic Con that Wonder Woman will follow the footsteps of "Batman '66" and will return as a new weekly digital series.

TheMarySue.com posted the official word from DC on the site, saying:

"On the heels of the SENSATION COMICS FEATURING WONDER WOMAN launch will be WONDER WOMAN '77, a new series based on the popular 1970s television show starring Lynda Carter. The series will be written by Marc Andreyko with several covers drawn by Nicola Scott. Additional artists for the project will be named in the coming weeks. WONDER WOMAN '77 will debut digitally in December with six consecutive weekly chapters. These will be collected in two print issues to be released early in 2015. The series will then resume in the spring and appear periodically throughout the year."

Andreyko also said at the Comic Con panel, as reported by Newsarama, "This is gonna be Lyle Wagner and Lynda Carter in the '70's. I have a trip planned to Studio 54. I also have permission to use villains from the comics, cause if you've seen the show, you know the only villains are Nazis and gangsters."

The Comic Con moderator, John Cunningham quipped, "Lynda Carter is everyone's favorite Wonder Woman. If you enjoy it have as much as I enjoy it, it should be a lot of fun. And maybe, somewhere between Batman '66 and Wonder Woman '77, maybe we can do a crossover."

The details are still to be revealed over the coming weeks, however, The Hollywood Reporter said that the "Wonder Woman '77" is just one of three new series that DC's "Download This!" panel announced on Sunday, the others being videogame properties. "Mortal Kombat X" will debut on January 2015, as will "Fables: The Wild Among Us."

"Mortal Kombat X" will be drawn by Dexter Soy with covers by Ivan Reis, and will serve as the prequel to the game by NetherRealm Studios and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. Comic Book Sources said that the story will take 25 years after the events of the "Mortal Kombat" relaunch game, released in 2011.

"Fables," on the other hand, is a direct tie to the video game of the same name which serves as a prequel to the Vertio comics by Bill Willingham. It has also been confirmed that the characters introduced in the game will also be found in the new comic series.
