Interior Design Ideas: Wallpaper is Becoming a Trend Again

It is back and perhaps for a long haul-yes, that is wallpaper that has been with homes in the past, then took a back seat (perhaps due to nightmares caused)-but not, better than ever! Homeowners and designers are again looking at the good old reliable wallpaper.

According to Dee Elms of Boston firm Terrat Elms Interior Design, in her conversation with Boston Globe, "Wallpaper sometimes scares people. Wallpaper of years ago was always covered in oranges and apples. Wallpaper today is different."

Despite what happened in the past, with the not so called-good experience in using wallpapers way back in the  '60s, '70s, and '80s, thanks to bloggers and pinterest lovers who have provided excellent designs, the return of wallpaper is beginning go to noticed. Nowadays, the designs seem more subtle and not so dizzying as compared before.

"We all love paint, but sometimes you just need a little bit more. Wallpaper can add dimension, it can add a sparkle, and it creates a really warm, layered feeling," Elms adds.

But what is the key to an update look? Melissa Hammond of Boston's Hammond Design, shares that it has something to do with the application. "A lot of people think of their parents' or their grandparents' house, where the entire house was wallpapered, where it was not done well and the patterns clashed. I try to get them to rethink it. It's not something you're going to have in every single room," she reminded.

One suggestion provided by Sally Staub, an interior design consultant in Northampton, is to view it as an art or accessory and an amazing one at that.

What other suggestion have the experts in wallpaper designs offered?

Opt for texture over print. "It's not going to have such a big personality that it takes your breath away when you walk in the room," Elms says. "It's going to blend with the interiors."

Use it on an accent wall. "We'll use wall treatments on one wall of a space, similar to the way we might use a painted accent color," says Stephanie Horowitz of Boston firm ZeroEnergy Design.

Stick to a smaller space. It is better to use modern print and think carefully where it must be put. Consider Closets, laundry rooms, and nurseries.

Try temporary paper. It is a good option if still unsure of what you want to do. In addition, it is also gaining populary nowadays.

Go for vintage. Come to think of it, you cannot go wrong in a classic vintage look.

Since we are on the topic of upgrading the look of your home, Press Of Atlantic City made suggestion on how you can splurge for a better home design that is going to be totally worth it, aside high-end wall paper, that is.

Warm floors all winter. Choose the most used part of the house and then have heated floors. It may be expensive but it will totally worth it.

Upgrading your closet. An organized closet makes you feel instantly  better, don't you agree?

Sound across the house. Just imagining it already makes it worth the money you'd be spending and you'd be glad.

High-end linens. Think comfort. They also last for a long long time so it is like spending on them just a few times.

Touch faucet. It switches on at the lightes touch and you can use it without problem even when you are cooking and have your hands extra full.
