Andy Samberg, the "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" actor and "Saturday Night Live" alum, and his musician wife Joanna Newsom have reportedly purchased "Moorcrest," a historic home in Beachwood Canyon, Los Angeles, for $6.25 million.
The "Moorcrest" home was once rented by the legendary Charlie Chaplin and his then-wife Mary Astor. Apparently, Chaplin and Astor lived for a brief period in the house but since then, anyone who knows the place refers to it as the "Charlie Chaplin House."
And now, Samberg and Newsom have made it their own love nest. The couple married in 2013 at a luxury retreat in Big Sur. They dated for five years before getting hitched.
Property records show that Samberg and his wife closed on the recently redecorated and renovated residence in April. The home was put on the market in 2006 and 2007 and sported several price tags ranging from $7 to $10 million. However, it was being marketed as a pocket listing when Samberg and Newsom cashed in on the house, the Real Estalker (via Variety) reports.
The blog, citing insider sources, notes that the couple ended up snagging it for a discount because its asking price was well above the $6.5 million they paid for it.
The home was built in the early 1920s and changed hands only a few times before. Records show that it sold for $900,000 in 1999, but the Real Estalker reports that businessman Andrew Meieran bought it in 2001 for an undisclosed amount.
Currently, the three-storey main house spans an area of 6,432 square feet and has four bedrooms and six bathrooms. The place teems with architectural history with cathedral high ceilings, hand-painted frescos, arched hallways, elaborate mosaics and stained glass windows.
