‘The Vampire Diaries’ Spoilers: Ian Somerhalder ‘Dies’ on the Series, Show also Hints Goodbye?

Ian Somerhalder's cryptic messages in the past that somewhat relays him leaving the CW series "The Vampire Diaries" created a total fan frenzy for the fans. Although the star has not addressed the rumor about him leaving the show, Inquisitr pitches in that Somerhalder who plays the role of Damon Salvatore in the series may actually "die."

According to Inquisitr based from Movie News Guide, "Ian Somerhalder now considers leaving the supernatural drama series because he feels that viewers do not appreciate Damon anymore without Elena. He allegedly feels that Damon no longer leaves a mark on the viewers compared to when he was still with Elena."

Another hint to this rumored departure of Somerhalder is the last episode's three-year flashback wherein his character Damon Salvatore is in a pit of danger. A venom was insinuated over him and this venom could actually kill Damon if a remedy from a hybrid won't be given.

Meanwhile Somerhalder is not the only one hinting departure, even the CW vampire series as well is feared for cancellation especially now that it was moved to a new Friday slot.

"Fans were quick to notice the time change announcement and have already begun to worry the vampire-werewolf-heretic show might be headed towards its final season. But not every program that moves to Friday meets a quick end," according to CDL.

Adding more to the rumors of cancellation is the ratings of "The Vampire Diaries" Season 7 that dwindled in numbers. The show's ratings dropped a 33% on viewership in its recent count. And one of Season 7's episode entitled "Mommie Dearest" reportedly received the "lowest" rating ever for the CW show. The publication even detailed that the episode had a 1.10 million views which is very far from its average last year which is 1.5 million.

Is Somerhalder's time in the series "over" and will he be the next to follow Nina Dobrev's footsteps?
