'Campbells Soup' Mansion For Sale In The Main Line

Linden Hill, a 50.5-acre property in Monk Road in Gladwyne is on the market for a whopping $19.5 million. What's notable about this Main Line estate is that it used to be the family residence of the rich Dorrance family for half a century, the legendary family behind the Campbell's Soup Company, Patch reports.

The legendary estate boasts world-class architecture and its vast acres and park-like setting that are fit for a wealthy family; built between 1928 and 1931 and designed by Edmund B. Gilchrist for stockbroker Rodman Ellison Griscom.

Upon entering the private and guarded grounds of the estate, the theme is that of the quaintest French villages with the fenced pastures and stone outbuildings.

Further up, the initial courtyard is formed with turreted caretakers' quarters, a garage that can accommodate up to 10 cars, stables, and more accommodation rooms for the staff that directs towards the crest of a hill where a narrow walled lane opens to the magnificent manor house.

It is a "majestic example of French Normandy-inspired design" of astonishing scale and symmetry, states Lisa Weber Yulis, the property's listing agent. After the courtyard entry, framing the main house are guest houses stacked with brick chimneys, and behold the historic and breathtaking mansion. It is beautifully maintained and has not lost its origins despite the modern upkeeps and amenities.

Entertaining won't be a problem with the grand-scale formal rooms that can cater elegant and easy, expansive or intimate gatherings. There are equally inviting family living quarters that can house guests for either short or long-term stays.

After the grandness of the main house, there lay two pools, a pool house, tennis court, as well as a stunning aviary, and all these are beautifully set in an amazing gardens and grounds.

The timeless and luxurious 8-bedroom, 10-bathroom, and 14,467-square-foot Linden Hill estate is an absolute gem as a legacy property or a family retreat.
