‘Rick and Morty’ Season 3 Spoilers & Release: Creators Explain Why Time Travel is Not an Option for the Third Season

"Rick and Morty" creators Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon reveal that time travel is a nightmare aspect of the series and they plan to veer away from using it to show the next adventures of Rick.

The third season of "Rick and Morty" is reported to be released in 2017 which is a long ways off. According to Movie Pilot, there is hope that it will be released sooner but it all depends on the show's creators Roiland and Harmon. The concept of the show is said to be for a parody of the ever popular time travel movie "Back to the Future" but avid fans have noticed that the most recent episodes of the series does not even come close to showing any hint of time travel.

The creators of "Rick and Morty" may have the parody in mind, but they have purposely avoided making any storyline dependent on the concept of the main characters going through time for their adventures. The episode called "A Rickle in Time" demonstrated how complicated it is to make a coherent storyline that the show's audience can follow given the odd and weird situations that Rick and Morty often find themselves in.

That particular episode saw the formation of a paradox that split time into different realities. It would have continued on multiplying if Rick was not able to fuse them all back again. This is what led Harmon to say, "Time travel is a real shark-jumper. Once you introduce it to the canon of your show - it's just a dangerous toy to pull out." To which Roiland added, "Here's what's great about the first episode of Season Two is that it's a cautionary tale of why you don't fuck with time. And by the way, Rick never travelled - none of them travelled in time - all they did was pause time."

In report by Master Herald, "Rick and Morty" will be part of the Animation Breakdown 2015 in Los Angeles in December and the creators of the show have decided to showcase an episode of "Rick and Morty" which is independent of ties to season two or advance plot revelation for season three.
