Nicholas Meyer, 'Star Trek II' director, unloads Pacific Palisades home for $5.4 million

Nicholas Meyer, novelist, screenwriter and film director, has unloaded his two-story, 8,222-square-foot Pacific Palisades home for $5,407,000, reports the Los Angeles Times.

Designed by Cliff May and built in 1937, the courtyard-style house sits on a more than three-fourth acre lot. Meyer's family home for the past 15 years, he's used it for everything from work to family weddings and entertaining guests. Meyer listed the property for $7.3 million early this month.

The house includes eight bedrooms, eight full and two half bathrooms, a library and a large kitchen with enough room for a breakfast table, a couch and an island with stools offering views of the patio. When Meyer, who became well known after directing "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan," purchased the house, it only had eight bedrooms, 8.5 bathrooms and no kitchen.

In addition to the kitchen, Meyer also constructed low-flow toilets, a fire-resistant roof and solar hot water.

The interiors of Meyer's home feature a number of original details, including ornamental ironwork on the stairway handrail, archways, bay windows, beamed ceilings, a stairwell chandelier and three wood-burning fireplaces.

The property is complete with a swimming pool and a separate garage.

Sixty-four-year-old Meyer said he sold the property because his daughters are grown up now, leaving just him and his wife in the big home. Public records show that he purchased the property for $1,841,000 in 1995.

The property was listed with Darby C. Gardner and Mary Beth of Coldwell Banker.

Meyer wrote three Sherlock Holmes books, including, "The Seven-Per-Cent Solution," for which he also wrote the Oscar-nominated screenplay. His memoir, "The View From the Bridge: Memories of Star Trek and a Life in Hollywood," was published last year. In addition to directing "Star Trek II" and "Time After Time," Meyer also directed the TV film "The Day After." He recently wrote the spy drama "The Crook Factory" for Johnny Depp and is currently working on the TV mini-series "Houdini."
