"Code Black" joins the roster of successful freshman series with additional episode orders this TV season.
According to Deadline, the CBS freshman medical drama will have five more episodes from its original 13 episodes. "Code Black" will now have 18 episodes. The network previously ordered six backup scripts for the series few months ago.
Since its premiere on Sept. 30, "Code Black" had a modest "Cinderella" run. It was said that the ratings began to improve weekly, which is a rare feat for few TV series.
The outlet reported that its debut resulted to 8.5 million viewers with a 1.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic. The latest episode got almost 7 million views and a 1.2 rating. The show's rating also increased to 67 percent with 3 million more audiences in the live + 7-day ratings.
The medical drama is set at the most hectic ER in America where members of the facility continued to make extraordinary feats at their workplace. It was despite the fact that they are struggling with the apparently corrupt system in the medical industry.

Created by "North Country" writer Michael Seitzman, "Code Black" is based on the documentary by Ryan McGarry. It is produced by ABC Studios and CBS Television Studios.
"Code Black" Season 1 Episode 9 "The Son Rises" will air on Nov. 25. It is directed by Andrew Bernstein and written by Michael Seitzman and Kristen Kim.
The series will join both "Limitless" and "Life and Pieces," which already have full-season orders of 22 episodes from the network. However, there is still no news for the comic book-inspired "Supergirl" starring Melissa Benoist.
