"Penny Dreadful" fans were recently treated with a promo image for the show's Season 3. The image shows Patti Lupone in her returning character Dr. Seward with Eva Green, who plays the lead role of Vanessa.
According to Christian Today, the promo image which shows Green in a straitjacket while resting her head on Dr. Seward's lap has raised various questions and speculations on the upcoming season. It is said that Green's character seems to be getting weaker under Dr. Seward's care, though the psychiatrist was supposed to help her fight evils that she can't defeat herself.
According to the report, the speculation that Dr. Seward may be sabotaging Vanessa mentally has come up because of the promo image. However, this is yet to be confirmed when "Penny Dreadful" Season 3 airs. It is reportedly expected that Dr. Seward will reveal her true colors in the new season.
Meanwhile, along with the teaser photo, the synopsis for Season 3 of "Penny Dreadful" has also been revealed. TV.com posted the official synopsis on its site, which reads:

Tony® Award winner LuPone (American Horror Story), who guest starred last season as the Cut-Wife, returns as a series regular in the new role of Dr. Seward, an American therapist who treats Vanessa with an unconventional new approach. Wes Studi (Hell On Wheels, A Million Ways to Die in the West) is a new series regular starring as Kaetenay, an intense, enigmatic Native American with a deep connection to Ethan (Josh Hartnett) who also becomes an ally to Sir Malcolm (Timothy Dalton).
Guest stars Sarah Greene (Hecate) and Simon Russell Beale (Ferdinand Lyle) return, along with new guest stars Shazad Latif (The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, Spooks) as Dr. Henry Jekyll; Screen Actors Guild® Award nominee Christian Camargo (Dexter, The Hurt Locker) as zoologist Dr. Alexander Sweet; Sam Barnett (2012, Jupiter Ascending) as Dr. Seward's mysterious young secretary; Jessica Barden (The Outcast, Far from the Madding Crowd) as Justine, a young acolyte to Lily (Billie Piper) and Dorian Gray (Reeve Carney); and Perdita Weeks (The Tudors), as Catriona Hartdegan, a scholar with expert knowledge of the supernatural. "Penny Dreadful" Season 3 is expected to premiere on Showtime in May 2016.
