Home Sellers: 4 Dirty Jobs You'll Be Glad You Did

One way to make your home sale difficult is not getting your hands dirty to deal with the dirty jobs. Trust us when we say that one of the easiest ways to turn buyers off is to not do anything about the different smells that your home is suffering from: pets, mold, smoke, and pheromones.

Most of the time, homeowners are oblivious to the true condition of their home, which is why it's best to have someone from the outside like your agent let you hear the brutal truth.

When you put your house in the market, you want it to be in the best shape (and smell). All it really takes is sticking to a maintenance routine to keep your home super clean and smell-free every day.

Here are 4 dirty jobs that you, as a home seller, will be glad you did according to Realty Times:

Pets

We love our furry friends, but we don't love the fur, slobber, and loose dirt that they leave all around the house. Some breeds are smellier than others, so figure out the best way to deal with the one you have. If your pet has its own bed, make sure to always keep the bedding fresh, and give them a good bathe more often than you normally would. If your pet hangs in your chair and carpet, consider steam cleaning to really deal with the smell.

Mold

It shouldn't be difficult to identify problems areas of mold in your home; it's that musty, underground kind of odor that should be caused by leaking. Check your pipes, tubs, and sink where mold usually accumulate. You can hire the help of a plumber to help you identify the source of the mold and administer proper solution.

Smoke

Smoking inside the house will not only hurt your health, but as well as your chance of selling your home. Potential home buyers wouldn't appreciate the smell of stale cigarette smoke that managed to settle and stick to your walls, furniture, carpets, curtains, and anything in your home that is permeable. Unfortunately, the only real way to get rid of the stale smoke smell is to replace everything - a little extreme but it should be worth it.

Pheromones

Potential home buyers don't want to get reminded of the previous homeowners, especially by smell. It is normal for humans to stink, what is not is if we allow it to linger especially in a home that you are trying to sell. During home showing, make sure that you don't have athletic gear, dirty clothes, unwashed sheets, used towels, and old pillows and beddings lying around. Those are the common home essentials that can easily store body odor. The solution: bathe more often than you do, deal with the laundry ASAP, and always keep the sheets fresh.
