Console Wars: Xbox One Outperforming Sony's PlayStation 4 Despite Price Cuts

A little over a month ago, it was reported that Sony had slashed prices for PlayStation 4 in Japan and the same thing was expected to happen in the U.S. It was also reported that Xbox Head Phil Spenser does not think that the PS4 price drop would ever be a threat to Xbox sales.

Spencer said, "It's great for gamers when price competition happens. We saw that last holiday, and we saw crazy sales numbers on all of the consoles."

Surprisingly, despite the PS4 price cut, the Xbox One turned out to be the best-selling console in October 2015.

According to GameSpot, the PlayStation 4 used to be the top-selling console in the country since it was launched in November 2013. But after the NPD group released its monthly report for sales including console units in the U.S. during the month of October, Microsoft claims in a statement that the Xbox One came out number one.

In a statement shared with GameSpot, Xbox VP Mike Nichols said, "The strength of the greatest games lineup in Xbox history drove record Xbox Live usage for October and made Xbox One the best-selling console in the U.S. with 81 percent growth compared to October 2014."

It was surprising considering the fact that the PS4 price had been slashed down to around $350, which is about the same price as the cheapest Xbox One.

On the other hand, Sony is still thankful that despite not being number one in terms of unit sales, the PlayStation 4 is still considered a successful product. According to GameSpot, a spokesperson from Sony said, "We are truly humbled by the success of the PlayStation 4 and look forward to celebrating with our fans at PlayStation Experience in December. Thank you to our community for making PlayStation 4 the top selling console globally."

With the holidays fast approaching can the Xbox One remain in the lead? Or will PS4 catch up?
