"Once Upon a Time" creators and showrunners give a hint about the story behind the comeback of Mulan and Ruby. They also talk about how ready Storybrooke is about it.
"Once Upon a Time" creators Adam Horowitz and Eddy Kitsis talk about Ruby and Mulan's journey back to Storybrooke. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Horowitz and Kitsis discuss the return of Mulan and Ruby to Storybrooke, what they intend to do with Merida and the upcoming gay theme that fans and viewers expect to see this season.
When asked about how they will handle Mulan and Ruby's comeback, Kitsis said they have always wanted to bring Ruby back to the show. However, they do not want her to magically appear like she never left. The upcoming season will show what she has been up to and where she is the whole time. The same goes for Mulan, he said. Kitsis further outlined what will happen. He mentions that the two will be asked to help Merida with something in her home. Apparently, her father owes a debt to a witch seen in "Brave" and it will be up to Ruby and Mulan to help Merida find a solution to her problem.
Another topic they were asked to comment on is the level of involvement of Ruby and Mulan with Storybrooke. A concern was raised whether they will be back just for Merida or will they have some other concerns. Horowitz said there will be connections with Storybrooke aside from Merida. Kitsis even revealed that there will be a scene between Ruby and Mary Margaret.
In a report by ET, Kitsis said "A lot of the questions that everyone has been asking themselves and a lot of these mysteries that we have posed at the beginning of the season will be answered on Sunday night," Kitsis teased. "You will find out the answer to why Emma is doing what she's doing, and you'll find out more about the curse."
