Open houses are one of the many ways for you to be able to sell your house and receive some offers. However, there are mistakes that people are committing without them fully knowing it, or they just preferred to not mind.

These mistakes, as posted by Elle Decor, could lead to lesser chances of receiving the best offer in the market. So make sure to check on the list before you head over to commencing your open house.

1. Leaving personal items in the yard - or anywhere in the house. ​

Since you are already doing an open house, you are considering of letting go of your home. So, you should keep your personal things away from the house as much as possible. Moreover, the front yard is the first part of the house that your guests see, so make sure it's spotlessly clean. The purpose of the open house is to let your potential buyers see the beauty of the home - not your personal properties.
2. Neglecting the outdoor landscaping. ​

Again, your front yard will be the source of first impressions. Make sure to make it as appealing as possible. Keep the lawn mowed, flowers and plants in great shape. If you do this, the potential buyer would not have to mind cleaning the yard before moving in once he plan buying the house.
 3. Not cleaning the house and keeping away clutter. ​

Your piles of newspaper and magazines are not needed to sell your home. In fact, they may be the primary reason why your potential buyer might not 'buy' the idea of buying your home. So make sure to keep the house clean and clutter-free.

4. Not solving the source of unpleasant smell.

For starters, no one would want to buy a house that smells! So make sure to check on the places that might be the cause of unpleasant smell. You also would want to light some scented candles to keep the house smelling fresh.

5. Keeping potential buyers away from 'off-limit' areas.

You are selling the home, right? Then, if you are taking the potential buyer into a home with areas that are off-limits, how can he check the entirety of the house that he will possibly be living in? This will also be one of the reasons why some potential buyers might be feel turned off.
