‘Person of Interest’ Season 5 Premiere & Spoilers: Finch’s Relationship with the Machine to Evolve While Shaw Returns; Where Does Her Loyalty Lie Now?

Fans are dying to know what happens next in Season 5 of "Person of Interest" and recent reports claim that as the Machine recuperates, Harold Finch's (Michael Emerson) relationship with it will evolve. Meanwhile, Sarah Shahi will reprise her role as Sameen Shaw in the TV series, but John Reese (Jim Caviezel) will be wondering if she has turned against them.

According to MNR Daily, the Machine will be back in Season 5, but it will be struggling to function as it recuperates from the events in Season 4. Entertainment Weekly reports that as Finch tries to fix the Machine, his relationship with it will evolve into a "more fatherly kind of relationship." Finch will reportedly be more protective of his creation, and fans can see him beyond his stoic computer programmer persona as he gets more attached and concerned with the Machine, which he reportedly believes is "evolving into something more human."

Meanwhile, it has been reported that Shahi will make a comeback in "Person of Interest" Season 5. According to Cinema Blend, her character was introduced before Taraji P. Henson's character, Joss Carter, left the show. Shahi, who played Shaw, served as the wheelman of the team but had to leave the show because she got pregnant in real life. Before her maternity leave, her character seemed to have been shot in a cliffhanger episode and was presumed dead since.

However, in the Season 4 finale, it was made clear that Shaw is still alive and it has been confirmed that she will be coming back to Team Machine in Season 5. In the finale episode last season, she was seen "walking away willingly with the Samaritan agents." Now that she'll be back with Team Machine in Season 5, Reese will reportedly have apprehensions about her and will suspect if her loyalty has changed since she's been with the Samaritans for too long.

As of writing, there's still no definite premiere date for Season 5 of "Person of Interest," but it is expected to come back on CBS midseason.
