The highly anticipated "Longmire" season 5 was given the go signal, according to Netflix via an official announcement.
A recent post on the official Facebook page of "Longmire" read: "We've never been one to back down from a fight. Longmire will return to Netflix for Season 5."
The show was cancelled by its original network, A&E, despite having 5.6 million viewers, The Wall Street Journal reported. The series was immediately picked up by Netflix for its fourth season. Packed into ten episodes, "Longmire" was launched on the Internet television network on Sept. 10.
The contemporary crime thriller is based on the "Walt Longmire" mystery novels written by Craig Johnson. The series stars Robert Taylor as the charismatic, dedicated and unflappable sheriff of Absaroka County, Wyoming, Walt Longmire. Other cast members include: Katee Sackhoff (Victoria 'Vic' Moretti), Lou Diamond Phillips (Henry Standing Bear), Bailey Chase (Branch Connally), Cassidy Freeman (Cady Longmire), Ally Walker (Dr. Donna Monaghan), and Adam Bartley (Ferg).
The fourth season tied up loose ends of what went hanging in the third season. Longmire, having found out who was behind the murder of his wife, is bent upon avenging his wife's death. Branch Connally, the deputy who got fired for unstable behavior, believes he has already figured out who the real culprit is.
In the final episode of Season 4, Henry was driven off by a tribal police officer, while Walt and Dr. Monaghan's love fest was abruptly interrupted by a mysterious person crashing through the door. The protagonist bravely went into dark places with the resolution of season 4's cliffhanger, but it is likely Henry's impending danger will end on a more positive note as compared to Walt's. The sheriff has gained many foes and Dr. Monaghan also serves a long list of patients suffering from brain damage, so there is no definite lead on the intruder's identity.
There is still no update on Longmire season 5's official release date. However, the audience can refresh each story plot on all episodes as the complete four seasons are available on Netflix.
