Author William Blake's Cottage Listed for Sale for the First Time in 85 Years; Asking $1 Million

The west Sussex cottage where author William Blake lived from 1800 to 1803 is up for sale for the first time since 1928. The place is listed for $1 million.

This is the same cottage where the author began ground work for "Milton: A Poem." He was already an acclaimed author and had released works including "Songs of Innocence" and "Experience."

The cottage consists of 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms on the ground floor and 2 bedrooms and bathrooms on the first floor. Apart from this, the house has a large dining room, a splendid living area and an expansive yard.

Formerly the home of William Blake and the first time on the market since 1928. A most picturesque 17th Century brick and flint period cottage, Listed Grade II*, set in a sheltered walled garden in the heart of the old village within 250 yards of the foreshore.  Entrance Porch, Sitting Room, Dining Room, Home Office, Kitchen/Breakfast Room, Garden Room, East Hall leading to Utility Room/Kitchenette, Ground Floor, Bedroom 4, Bathroom, 3 First Floor Bedrooms, Bathroom 2. Blake was employed as an apprentice by a master engraver in London at the age of 18 and spent time at the Royal Academy. He made ends meet by selling his engravings, and by illustrating for books and magazines. The cottage's dining room is thought to have housed his printing press.
