Developer Christian Candy’s Penthouse atop Plaza Hotel Asks $59 Million

Christian Candy, the famous property man who developed One Hyde Park, the most expensive apartment building of New York, has reportedly listed his penthouse sitting atop the Plaza Hotel for $59 million.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Candy purchased the three story penthouse sometime in 2012 for around $25.9 million. He then had it renovated by his own design firm, Candy &Candy. Apparently, if the home sells for the asking price, it could be a record sale for the building.

The listing records of the penthouse state that the contemporary place is a 6319 square feet residence with a room count of 10, comprising of four bedrooms, five full and one half bathroom and 229 square feet of exterior space that offers beautiful views of the Central Park.

Interiors of the place feature dark hardwood flooring, floor-to-ceiling glass windows, tray ceilings and ultimate luxury fittings and fixtures.

The listing describes the place as:

"The 20th floor provides a gracious 2300 square foot reception level featuring a generous 36' x 28' living room with commanding views of the park. The dining room comfortably seats 14 people and the state-of-the-art open kitchen boasts 21 foot ceilings and skylight. Opening off the kitchen is a den with a gas burning fireplace overlooking Fifth Avenue. The 21st floor is comprised of a generous Master Suite, which includes a sitting area, his & hers dressing rooms, his & hers bathrooms, and a private 229 square foot terrace overlooking the park. The 19th floor has three additional bedrooms each with private bathroom, ample closet space, and laundry. There is a private elevator that services each floor of the apartment."

While the listing goes on about the beauty of the place, the unit has somewhat of a controversial history. According to the Real Deal, a former owner of the residence had filed a lawsuit against the developers saying the listing misled buyers claiming "light and airy expanse," which was actually a disappointment.

Meanwhile, the Plaza Hotel itself is a celebrity building. Suites of the Plaza have been featured in movies like "Home Alone 2"," Scent of a Woman" and television series like "Friends" and "Sex and The City.
