Senator John McCain’s Former Arizona Home Up for Grabs

A former Arizona home of senior U.S. Senator John McCain has been listed in the open market and is asking for $2.9 ,million. McCain and his wife resided in the home for 20 years and sold it off in 2006 for $3.2 million.

The home has had quite a real estate history. According to the Zillow Blog, after McCain sold the home to Jane Popple, a real estate investor in 2009, it was listed for $12 million, within two years of purchase. Failing to sell, the home received many pricechoppers but in vain. The home was even slated t go up for auction at $10 million but failed to snag a buyer again. Finally, the home sold for just $1.8 million in 2011.

However, since the property markets are hot now, the current owners are trying their luck and have listed it with a reasonable price tag.

According to the listing records, the home is located in Phoenix, Arizona, and was built back in 1951. The renovated home now sports a Tuscan design. The single family residence spans an area of 14,383 square feet sitting on a 94,307 square feet lot.

The main home comprises of seven bedrooms and six full and one half bathroom. A formal living room, a dining room, a media room, a gym, a game room, a modern eat-in kitchen and a wine room are some of its features. In addition to the main unit, the estate also has two guest houses, a swimming pool/ spa and open porches and patios. The home  has eight covered parking spaces and sprawling greens.

Though the home has undergone renovations, traces of the McCain family remain.

"Family members had pressed their handprints into the wet concrete of a floor off the kitchen and wrote "Our new home," Bob Hassett of Sotheby's International Realty said to AZCentral.com. The wood paneling and fireplace in Sen. McCain's former office also remain.

"If Mr. McCain does get elected, obviously, there will be a lot more value in a potential buyer's mind," he added.

Apparently, senator McCain maintains an elaborate real estate portfolio. He and his wife Cindy are rumored to have owned 10 to 13 properties in Arizona alone. They live in a penthouse in Phoenix now.
