America's Scariest Places: 7 Real Life Haunted Houses

Halloween is getting nearer and what better way to celebrate it by hearing some spooky stories. While spooky stories may not be interesting for some, these houses and hotels can be the real thrill for scare seekers. Aside from the Amityville house, these places listed by HG TV surely will get chills running down your spine.  

Beware of these places! You might get an unexpected visitor when you come by.

1. The Cassadaga Hotel

Home for spiritualists and psychics since 1894, the Cassadaga hotel in Florida will surely be one of the destinations you don't want to go to for a haunting adventure. It was reported that a powerful energy houses the hotel and a ghost of an old tenant that died in the building still lingers.

2. Myrtles Plantation

The plantation is regarded to be one of the creepiest places and most haunted houses in America. The house was built in 1797 and reportedly has some weird paranormal activities such as a piano playing by itself, moving furnitures, and pictures of people disappearing and appearing in photographs.

3. The LaLaurie House

The LaLaurie was a home by a distinguishable family in the 1830s. Dr. Louis and Delphine LaLaurie lived in the mansion and rumors say that Dr. Delphine tortures his slaves in the house. The house was then owned by famous actor Nicholas Cage for two years and the souls of the slaves are reported to still scream for help. 

4. Franklin Castle

An image of a black woman staring in the window and voices of children crying are reported to haunt the Castle. The castle that was built in 1865 is known to be the most haunted house in Ohio. It was reported that the owner before Tiedemann is rumored to have killed his niece and mistress inside the house.

5. The Whaley House

The Whaley House currently runs as a museum and was once named in the 1960s as an "Official Haunted House" by the US Dept. of Commerce. There were reports that heavy footsteps can be heard inside the house and is said to be the ghost of "Yankee Jim" Robinson, who was hanged in 1852.

6. The Lemp Mansion

In the 1980s, the mansion was known to be one of the most Haunted mansions in America by Life Magazine. The mansion which dates back from the 1860s had four of the members of the family commit suicide, three of which occurred in the house itself.

Now, the mansion offers house tours and converted into a restaurant and an inn.

7. Villisca Ax Murder House

Do you want a daytime tour or a sleepover? This house is open for that but beware of the chilly cries of children and unexpected opening and closing of the doors in this house that will totally send anyone chills. In 1912, six members of the Moore family and two of the houseguests were axed to death by a murderer still unknown.
