Android 6.0 Marshmallow Release Update: More on Performance, Less on Features

Nexus 5 and Nexus 6 Smartphones are set to receive Google's most awaited operating system, the Android 6.0 Marshmallow, on Oct. 5. This was announced by TELUS, Canada's second largest provider.

Nexus 2015, the Nexus 5 and Nexus 6, smartphones by Google was revealed today. At the same time, Google has also released to the public their latest mobile OS (operating system), the Android Marshmallow 6.0. Just a few days after that on Oct. 5, TELUS will be releasing over-the-air (OTA) updates to the Nexus 5 and 6, Android Police reported.

TELUS also clarified that the mentioned date is a possible start date, but it is not a guarantee, as the process may take a few days or weeks. Google, on the other hand, is known for releasing OTA updates via zip files and images, so there is always an option for manually updating Android devices, if one does not want to wait that long.

Compared to last year, Google wants to start rolling out their Marshmallow 6.0, the new operating system, earlier. The main reason is, as reported earlier, Marshmallow is a device that is more performance and improvement centered rather than feature centered.

Google's release date this year is almost the same period as last year.  Nexus 6 was revealed Oct. 15 and hit the shelves on Oct. 29, which was exactly two weeks later. It was around Nov. 12, to be exact, when Lollipop started to be installed on other Nexus devices, Mobile Syrup reported.

Nexus 2015, Nexus 5x and 6P, is scheduled to be released anytime soon, and will come with the latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow. It is also rumored to be slightly priced lower compared to its predecessor of last year. Pre-orders may start, possibly from the Google Store, once revealed.

Android Marshmallow 6.0 and Nexus 5 and Nexus 6 had no official announcements during the Google's Nexus and Chromecast event.
