‘Once Upon a Time’ Season 5 Spoilers: Emma’s Escapes Dark Path; Spreads Darkness in Storybrooke; Possible Death?

In "Once Upon a Time" Season 5, Storybrooke will undergo major changes, since the supposed One Savior of the show will embrace her fate to the dark side and turn into the Dark One. The efforts of her family and friends to rescue her will be useless.

Of course, like any other episode, the show will use flashbacks to support the plot of the previous weeks. The producers compare the start of the 5th season to the half of the 3rd season, which will leap to the current day and the characters have forgotten about the days under the rule of the Wicked Witch in the Enchanted Forest.

Based on the confirmations of Edward Kitsis, one of the showrunners, they will be "flashing back to Camelot and then present-day Storybrooke, with a few origin stories." The new season will also include backstories for Merlin, Arthur, Guinevere, Lancelot and Merida, according to Kitsis.

On the other hand, Horowitz assures in Variety that "it's not gonna be the whole winter before we catch up [with what happened during those six weeks], and it's not necessarily everybody at the same time." Despite the influx of new characters in Camelot, Horowitz also insists that the story will focus on "our core group of characters and what they're going through in Camelot with regards to Emma... We'll see what seems to have happened to her and [explore] that mystery and how they can or can't help her."

Could Emma still get out of the darkness? Or is she staying there forever? Horowitz's answer is, "it's going to affect her, and the ramifications of what happened in this premiere are felt throughout the entire season."

While a lot of the story in the first half tended to wrap up in the mid-season, there are bigger issues that will be introduced as early as this episode, which will carry over for the whole season. "We're trying to tell two separate parts of episodes and connect them. Emma's journey is going to encompass the whole season," said Horowitz.

If this is true, it means Emma could still get out and escape the darkness. However, since her being already affected, a speculation circulating might be true that she will spread darkness in Storybrooke and a possibility that a character will get killed.
