Zsa Zsa Gabor's home which was used during the filming "Argo" finally bags a buyer, reported Zillow blog.
Maybe the "Best Picture" Oscar win lent a hand in this sale.
The home located at 1001 Bel Air Road, Los Angeles, Calif. had price cuts and increases, ranging from $12 million to $15 million, and was on and off the market for several years, reported Zillow blog. The latest offer was for $14.9 million.
The Bel-Air home was built in 1955 and originally rented out to aviator millionaire Howard Hughes till the 1960s. Gabor bought the mansion in 1974 and hosted several high-rolling celebrities like Frank Sinatra, Elizabeth Taylor and even President Ronald Reagan.
The estate spans 8,878-square-feet, and comes with 6 bedrooms, 5 bathrooms and lounge spaces indoors and outdoors, where you can get a grand view of downtown Los Angeles.
But this Bel Air mansion wasn't only used for the set of "Argo," which was directed by and starred Ben Affleck, alongside John Goodman and Alan Arkin. The cast played the true-life story of a CIA operative disguised as a film producer shooting a science-fiction movie in Iran, but is really helping smuggle out six American Embassy workers from the country.
The mansion also shot scenes from another movie, an HBO film "Behind the Candelabra.
When the home couldn't sell after Gabor was in need of cash to pay for her care, Gabor's husband, Frederic Prinz von Anhalt took out reverse mortgages on the property and was in trouble of not making the consistent payments on the estate, reported Los Angeles Times.
He decided to rent the estate and when producer Steven Soderbergh offered to rent, they couldn't resist. "Behind the Candelabra" is about the life of Liberace, starring Michael Douglas, Rob Lowe and Matt Damon. This seemed to be the best option at the time, because the home was about to foreclose and couldn't get loans. Renters can actually charge between $1,000 and $2,000 per day and it can go up to $3,500 when filming starts, according to ReelScout.
