Basketball legend Michael Jordan bought a $2.8 million home by the shores of Lake Norman in Charlotte, N.C., according to News & Observer.
The lakeside home is his second in the neighborhood in three years. This current home was also the former residence of National Hot Rod Association's Top Fuel Drag Racer Doug Herbert.
The residential space takes up a remarkable 12,310-square-foot in Cornelius, which is a luxury home community filled with premier golf and tennis programs and fine-dining. The upscale community also encompasses The Peninsula Club that spans 11 miles along the lake's shoreline.
According to property records retrieved by News & Observer, the Peninsula home was sold on Feb. 19, after 460 days on the market, to The Jordan Family Gift Trust.
The three-level home features six bedrooms, eight bathrooms and a five-room garage. It sits on a 1.1-acre plot nearby the golf spots, which we know is one of Jordan's weaknesses. But the interior amenities are quite the catch, boasting an entertainment and fitness space, a boat slip, fenced yard and a pool. All the spacious rooms provide breath-taking views of the lake from every corner.
The construction of this lakeside beauty took place in 1993, and was at that time listed for $3.5 million.
Jordan is one of NBA's most decorated and hailed the best basketball player of all time by leading the Chicago Bulls into the spotlight. Jordan is currently the owner of the Charlotte Bobcats. He previously bought two uptown, top-floor penthouses in Charlotte at The Trust condos for $3.15 million in 2010. His list of homes doesn't end there.
There is a brand new $12.4 million mansion was built in Jupiter, Fla., reported The Chicago Tribune that consisted of 11 bedrooms and sprawling 28,000-square feet on a 3-acre estate.
The Peninsula's previous owner, Herbert, said the property is a fun place to invite family and friends. In 2008, the drag racer lost his two sons, Jon, 17, and James, 12, in a traffic accident near the lakeside home. Afterwards, Herbert decided it was time move, reported News & Observer.
Among the other sports celebrities taken a liking to the country club house are former Boston Celtics center Robert Parish and Joe Gibbs, former football coach and owner of NASCAR's Joe Gibbs Racing.
