The Safari Browser and its Little Known Contribution on the iPhone's Success

It was on August 16, 1994 that the first smartphone went on sale to the public. But back then, IBM's "Simon" was not called a smartphone, but it was packed with features that we see on most smartphones nowadays, it could take notes, send email and do messaging at the same time. And Simon was also the first mobile phone to feature software application.

Since then, the world of smartphones has totally changed. The chunky looking black box turned out to be more slim and handy as of today's standards. However looks was not the only noticeable change when it comes to smartphone evolution. For what is inside and its other intangible specifications are likewise being used as benchmark for phone's greatness. And undeniably, tech giant like Apple have truly anticipated such paradigm shift.

Apple with it its iPhone is known not only for its simplistic and elegant phone designs, but most especially of its software and other applications. However, during its early stage, it was not its fancy operating system and even the app store that in a way helped the iPhone be catapulted to where it is right now. For when it was shipped back in 2007, there was still no app store and strictly you couldn't install any third-party apps on the phone. But thanks to their web browser, Safari, iPhone made it through on their early stage.

Some would say that those days Safari is to be considered as a miracle for mobile. For though the iPhone was neither the first nor the fastest smartphone during those times, but it certainly gave most of its users a high-quality web browsing experience. Thus one could say that with the dawn of iPhone and its web browsing capabilities, Apple has truly transcended the concept of phones not just for mere call and text but as a true pocket computer.
