King Edward Hotel Toronto: Classic Hotel Completes Renovation, Boasts New Level and Updated Rooms

Omni King Eward Hotel in Toronto has finally completed its $40 million renovation. The classic hotel now has updated rooms and a Royal Club level.

According to Travel Weekly, the 301 rooms in King Edward Hotel now have "new furnishings and bedding, vintage crown moldings and marble bathrooms." Guests who are staying in the 29 rooms of the new Royal Club level can also enjoy luxurious amenities in the VIP Royal Club Lounge along with breakfast and hors d'oeuvres.

The hotel lobby was also improved: the wooded-panel walls and ceiling were restored with decorative plaster and now boast contemporary accents with ivory, gold and purple hues.

The Star reports that the famous Crystal Ballroom on the 17th floor was restored for $7 million. Dubbed by the report as "one of the city's most hidden architectural gems," the stunning ballroom now boasts floor-to-ceiling windows which offer amazing views of the three sides of the city. The ceiling of the ballroom is 12 meters high.

The Consort Bar also had a "facelift," though it reportedly "remains true to its historic roots." It was once the place that reporters rushed to during World War I.

King Edward Hotel is 112 years old. The recent renovation is said to be much needed, though much delayed, as many of the hotel rooms were unusable as they required major repairs. When Skyline, the new hotel management, took over the property five years ago, three whole floors reportedly had been a "dead zone."

After the $40 million renovation, the classic Toronto Hotel is now a five-star hotel, according to Skyline International founder Gil Blutrich.

"In new hotels, when you wake up, you aren't sure where you are - you can be in Bangkok, New York, San Francisco," said Blutrich. "When you are at the King Eddie, there is no mistaking where you are. You're experiencing the history of this city, the present and going forward," Blutrich continued, boasting the kind of experience guests can enjoy in the newly renovated Toronto hotel.
