Filming for "Outlander" Season 2 is already underway and while fans are excitedly waiting for the actress who will be playing Brianna Randall, Sam Heughan recently shared his excitement over the addition of new characters in the Starz series. While changes are expected to be made in the adaptation of Diana Gabaldon's second book, "Dragonfly in Amber," showrunner Ron Moore explained the complexity of translating the book to the small screens.

"Outlander" Season 2 was initially expected to cover Diana Gabaldon's second book, "Dragonfly in Amber." However, recent reports about Brianna Randall's character seemingly hinted that the show will be taking some parts from her fourth book, "Drums of Autumn."

Brianna will be following her mother, Claire (Caitriona Balfe), as the latter journeys back in time to meet with Jamie (Sam Heughan). While the reason for the crossover between the second and fourth books are yet to be explained, showrunner Ron Moore previously explained the complexity of Gabaldon's second book.

"It's laid out very differently, as a result it took more wrangling to try to figure out how to translate this particular story into our season. There were more complications, there were more characters, there were more shifting points of view," Moore told Entertainment Weekly via Enstarz.

Meanwhile, Scottish actor Sam Heughan expressed his excitement to see new characters in "Outlander" Season 2.

"There's some crazy new characters. It looks magnificent, the show looks incredible, and just trying to find where Jamie and Claire fit into that world, is exactly the kind of journey they're having," Heughan said, according to Daily Record.

The 35-year-old actor was recently spotted in a grueling battle with Tobias Menzies, who plays the roles of Black Jack Randall and Frank. Heughan, Balfe and Menzies will be joined by new actors and actresses, including Frances de la Tour (Mother Hildegarde), Stanley Weber (Le Comte St. Germain), Robert Cavanah (Jared Fraser), and Laurence Dobiesz (Alex Randall).
