Home Design Tips: Ideas and Projects to Make Your Home Eco-Friendly

There are many ways to make your home eco-friendly, especially now that the earth's health is on the decline. Do your part in helping the environment by tweaking a few things at home with these ideas.

Make the most out of your windows. When you're building your home from the ground up, place your windows where the most amount of sunlight and air enters. That way, you'll use less electricity for lights and air conditioning. If possible, keep windows open to maintain good air circulation and to keep your house cool even on a very hot day.

Optimizing your bathroom for maximum water conservation is great too, and you'd be surprised how easy it is to save on water consumption at home! First, you must check pipes, faucets, toilets, and even your water meter for leaks. These are often overlooked and forgotten, but when it comes to conservation, proper maintenance is key. Here are some other ways you can save on water at home.

Make use of sustainable material in your home. Bamboo and cork flooring are just some examples that will look chic anywhere. Reclaimed wood is also a good example of a material that looks good and is great for the environment. As much as possible, use materials that are from nature. You can do another quick change in your home by changing the type of paint used on your walls. Walls that are covered with paint that are low in volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are advisable, as VOCs tend to emit gases that may cause dizziness and headaches as they dry.

When you have an eco-friendly home, you have a healthy home. These "fixes" need not be expensive; just keep in mind the materials you use and the electricity that you consume.
