Leonardo DiCaprio 2015: Actor Slams Beard Fleas Rumors

Leonardo DiCaprio's latest film, "The Revenant," is soon to be out on the silver screen. However, before its release, the actor is being hit with an uncanny rumor involving his beard.

The latest rumor suggests that his beard has fleas. DiCaprio has shrugged off the rumors, but sources say that it has started to bother him. To defend the actor, the CEO of New Regency productions, Brad Weston, who is in charge of releasing Leo's latest film, spoke to Daily Mail to put an end to the strange beard allegations about the star.

"DiCaprio has had the full beard for months having grown it last summer before heading to the wilderness outside of Calgary, Alberta, to make the period adventure film with Birdman director Alejandro Iñárritu," Weston told the site.

The production's CEO claims that the final battle scene was taken in August in Argentina. All the work now is in the editing team. He cleared that DiCaprio can now freely shave his beard to slam the rumors.

"There's no reason now why DiCaprio can't shave off his beard as there are no planned re-shoots, contrary to other published reports."

DiCaprio's beard fleas controversy started when a source close to the actor apparently told the National Enquirer that she was shocked when she saw fleas crawling on the "Titanic" actor's beard, according to Metro. The source told the tabloid that they asked the 40-year-old actor to wash his beard often. Some members of the production team apparently even brought flea powder for the award-winning actor.

DiCaprio was not the first Hollywood A-list actor rumored to have beard fleas. In fact, according to The Guardians, a number of good-looking actors experienced the same humiliation for sporting beards. These include Peter Sellers, Joaquin Phoenix and Alec Baldwin.

Baldwin grew a long beard for the 1990s David Mamet movie, "The Edge." The "30 Rock" star smashed a table when someone asked him to shave off his beard.

"The Revenant" is a $95 million film based on a true story of a 19th century explorer Hugh Glass, played by DiCaprio. It follows the story of Glass' ordeals in the snow and the search for revenge after he was attacked by a bear. It stars British actors Tom Hardy, Will Poulter, Irish actor Domhnall Gleeson and Lukas Haas. It's slated to be released on Christmas day.
