The iconic boyband One Direction is currently shooting the music video of their latest single entitled "Drag Me Down." The upcoming video is set in no less than the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Space Center in Houston, Texas. The video is directed by the band's long-time collaborator, Ben Winston. Winston has worked with the boyband in the "Story of My Life" and "Best Song Ever" music videos.
"Drag Me Down" was released last Friday, July 31st, by former X-Factor finalists Liam Payne, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan. The boys performed live in Indianapolis the same night they released the latest single.
The single was also released just a day after former One Direction member Zayn Malik announced a solo signing to rival label RCA records. "Drag Me Down" was written by John Ryan, Jamie Scott and Julian Bunetta. The single was also produced by Ryan and Bunetta.
The song was received warmly by fans. The hashtag #DragMeDown was trending for several hours on Twitter with 22 thousand Tweets per minute on the first day. The song was played 4.75 million times on July 31st and became the first track ever to hit the No. 1 spot on the Spotify Global Chart on its first day of release. It also hit the No.1 spot on iTunes Charts in 86 countries.
The song also fared well in the charts of 15 countries such as Argentina, Canada, Brazil, Italy, Ireland, Ecuador, France, Hungary, Czech Republic, Portugal, Poland, Philippines, Malaysia, Peru and the United States.
This is great news for the group whose fans have been divided when Zayn left the group in March and when the news of 23-year-old Louis becoming a father came out.
The hit of their first Zayn-less single bodes well for the future of the quartet. And their filming the music video at the NASA Space Center is something many Directioners are looking forward to see. With One Direction going to NASA, fans can expect quite something big.
