Winona Ryder Will Star in HBO's New Mini TV Series 'Show Me A Hero'

Who does not remember the beautiful actress who played Susanna in the 1999 movie Girl, Interrupted? Her acting was also unforgettable when she starred in the 1994 remake of Little Women alongside Susan Sarandon, Kirsten Dunst, Claire Danes, and Christian Bale.

Winona Ryder is picking up a good pace in her acting career currently. The 43-year-old actress will be starring the new HBO show entitled Show Me a Hero and it will also air in Australia via Foxtel's Showcase. The show is created by David Simon of Treme and The Wire and directed by Paul Haggis of Crash. The new show is expected to air beginning on August 17th of this year.

On HBO describes the show as a six-part miniseries based on the non-fiction book "Show Me a Hero" that was written by Lisa Belkin, which as HBO writes, "explores notions of home, race and community through the lives of elected officials, bureaucrats, activists and ordinary citizens in Yonkers, NY."

It goes on to say, "In an America generations removed from the civil rights struggles of the 1960s, the young mayor (Oscar Isaac) of a mid-sized city is faced with a federal court order to build a small number of low-income housing units in the white neighborhoods of his town."

Furthermore HBO says:

"In an America generations removed from the greatest civil rights struggles of the 1960s, the young mayor (Oscar Isaac) of a mid-sized American city is faced with a federal court order that says he must build a small number of low-income housing units in the white neighborhoods of his town. His attempt to do so tears the entire city apart, paralyzes the municipal government and, ultimately, destroys the mayor and his political future."

Actors such as Catherine Keener, Alfred Molina, LaTanya Richardson-Jackson, Bob Balaban and Jim Belushi will be starring alongside Winona Ryder in the mini TV series.
