Mark Ruffalo, Rachel McAdams and Michael Keaton will star in a new movie that will involve some serious issues about the Catholic Church. According to The Guardian, "Spotlight" was directed by critically acclaimed director Tom McCarthy who was hailed after his works on films like "the Station," "The Visitor," and "Win Win." He also co-wrote the script for this upcoming intense drama film.
Keaton plays the role of Walter "Robby" Robinson who is the editor of the investigation team. According to Entertainment Weekly, the film is based on a true story about a group of reporters who try to unravel the truth behind the sexual abuse allegation in the Catholic Church.
Michael Keaton will appear in the new movie after his appearance in Oscar-winning "Birdman" and will be alongside Rachel McAdams, Mark Ruffalo, John Slattery, Liev Schreiber and Stanley Tucci. The cast will act as the Boston Globe team who has discovered a massive child abuse cover-up in the local Catholic archdiocese. The team later wins a Pulitzer Prize for their work. Keaton said in an interview that there are two stories which can be seen in the movie. The first movie is about a degenerate clergy and the second story is about a group of lawyers trying to turn the child abuse issue into a cottage industry. The actor said that viewers will find out which story the group is going to write.
In the first exclusive trailer that was released, different aerial shots of Boston and several confrontation scenes inside the lawyers' office can be seen. The two-minute trailer shows the group of reporters trying to find out who is responsible for the crimes.
