Home Design Ideas: Tips on Adding a Pop of Color to Any Room

Adding a pop of color can easily refresh and drastically change the feel and mood of any room. May it be through your walls or accessories, using the right hues and even patterns will add a bit more oomph to your space.

Let's start with the basics: The 60-30-10 rule. This translates to 60 percent dominant color, 30 percent secondary color, and 10 percent accent color. This rule doesn't only go for interiors but for all kinds of designs as well! Keep this rule in mind to avoid going overboard with a particular color and to maintain a balance.

The color-wheel is your best friend. Use complementary colors or those that go together so your space remains easy on the eyes. Use violet along with hints of bright yellow or teal with a bit coral or vice-versa. Check out this article on how to make complementary colors work for you.

Know what you're going for when it comes to your room. Are you going for bright and happy? Go for yellows and greens. Calming and subdued? Opt for violets and blues. Your room colors will affect your mood tremendously, so be in the know of what colors will work for you the best. There are certain colors that go the best with certain rooms, like red for the dining room to promote appetite and lavender for the living room for a more relaxed environment. Be playful with the areas where you'll add color. Experiment with ceilings, doors, and even on the insides of your closets. A bright blue door will look good against your pristine white walls if you aren't ready to go all-out yet. If you really insists on your favorite color like flamingo pink yet don't want your room to be drenched in it, paint it on the insides of your cabinets for a subtler and more mature effect.

Color is great for your home! Knowing how to use the right colors will pack a punch of personality and life to your space so go ahead, pick a color!
