Arum Angry at Pacquiao, Calls Champion Boxer ‘Irresponsible’ for Missing Treatment

Manny Pacquiao was supposed to go to the U.S. in time for his July 4, 2015 consultation with surgeon Neal ElAttrache at the Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic in Los Angeles, California. However, the Filipino boxer missed his doctor's appointment as he opted to stay in the Philippines, citing duties and work as the main reasons he wasn't able to fly to L.A. Pacquiao is also a congressman representing the Sarangani Province in Mindanao.

Last May 7, 2015, Pacquiao was treated for a shoulder injury (a torn rotator cuff) that he suffered from his boxing match with Floyd Mayweather, Jr. last May 2 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

In a statement made to New Standard / BoxingMirror about Pacquiao missing his rehab, Top Rank promoter Bob Arum said, "(it was) a serious operation. He's a professional athlete. I don't know what to say. To me it's totally irresponsible." The 83-year-old Arum is keen on Pacquiao undergoing rehab for his injury, and even went so far as to say that he will not negotiate a fight for Pacquiao until the boxer gets a clean bill of health from Dr. ElAttrache.

BoxingInsider.com posted this Tweet that further expressed Arum's sentiments: https://twitter.com/BoxingInsider/status/622787988691419136

Pacquiao, on the otherhand, has responded to Arum's comments, saying that the promoter need not worry about his condition. In a report by the Agence France-Presse (via Yahoo News), the boxer was quoted as saying, "I respect Arum. He's just like a father to me. I believe he's just voicing his concern and I appreciate it. I don't take it negatively." Pacquiao went on to say that he is "doing the rehab himself" and that he is "recovering faster than expected," as reported by Boxing Mirror.

Pacquiao is set to fly to the U.S. at the end of this month to push through with his rehabilitation treatment.
