NYC's First Underground Park Teaches Architects How To Bring The Light In

The Big Apple has been known to be one of the busiest urban areas in the entire world. Set with too much skyscrapers, vehicles, and other concrete establishments, Lowline Lab has decided to gift the urban people with a touch of greenery-- by establishing NYC's first Underground Park.

According to Engadget, New York City is not a stranger to many established parks that have gained more visitors than other states. However, the city clearly lacks some green within the vicinity. Realizing this, a non-profit group called Lowline has found a solution to make the NYC life more green and serene for the locals.

At present, Lowline has already conducted preliminary work on the said underground Manhattan Park which will be powered by solar technology that will fill the area with natural, plant-sustaining light. Who would have guessed that sunlight can fill up an underground area, right?

According to Crave Online, the said park will be a transformation of the abandoned NYC trolley terminal located below Delancy Street in New York City's Lower East Side neighborhood. Consequently, this area is also one of the most crowded spaces within the city.

Currently, the Lowline team have raised about $164,000, almost attaining their $200,000 goal to achieve with only 35 hours left, in order for them to continue their vision of creating a "heavenly oasis" beneath the urban city.

Furthermore, it is reported that the team would collect sunlight from the rooftops within the vicinity and mirror in inwards as a means to reflect that gained light to the street level and finally directing it to the underground park via tubes. This process will give the park that "natural sunlight" that can be enjoyed overhead. Good tips for realty home designers to keep the light in impossible areas, isn't it?
