A man who went for a colonoscopy got more than just a medical examination - he also got trashed by the very medical team who handled his procedure and is now $500,000 richer after winning the case he filed against them, People has the report.
The patient, who remains anonymous, was set to undergo colonoscopy and decided to record the doctor's post-surgery care procedure using his phone but ended up recording the entire procedure instead.
The anesthesiologist, Tiffany M. Ingham, 42, was recorded mocking the patient earlier in the procedure. "After five minutes of talking to you in pre-op, I wanted to punch you in the face and man you up a little bit."
And it did not end there. An assistant of Ingham took note of the rash on the man's arm to which the doctor cautioned about touching it, saying she might contract "some syphilis on your arm or something."
Ingham added: "It's probably tuberculosis in the penis, so you'll be all right."
The Washington Post also has a report on the issue and shared more of what can be heard in the audio recording as well as the juror's decision on the case.
"Well, why are you looking then, retard?" Ingram mockingly tells the sedated man when her assistant shared how the man got queasy when watching a needle placed in his arm.
The recording also revealed Ingham mocking the amount of anesthetic it would take to sedate the man, as well as plans of avoiding the patient after the procedure and giving him a false diagnosis of having hemorrhoids. The vicious commentary went on and even included the man's school, Mary Washington College which was once an all-women's school and wondered aloud whether the patient's gay.
Only identified as "D.B.", the plaintiff sued two doctors and their practices for defamation and medical malpractice and,=, after a three-day trial, a Fairfax County jury ordered the anesthesiologist and her practice to pay him $500,000: $100,000 for defamation, and $200,000 for medical malpractice, as well as the $200,000 in punitive damages.
The anesthesiologist, on the other hand, cannot be reached for a comment.
