Charleston Church Shooting Update: Suspect Gets Special White Treatment?

The terror of racism in America continues with the arrest of a white man who killed nine black people at an Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, South Carolina following his blatant "special white treatment".

BBC collected several photos that went viral over the internet, which compares the apparent white privilege that 21-year-old Dylann Roof receives from law enforcement agencies for being white as compared to the violent and unruly treatment by the police to black suspects accused of far less serious crimes.

The first stark contrast featured how Roof was arrested in a rather calm and serene manner as compared to Eric Garner in 2014.

Whereas Garner, an unarmed black man was wrestled down by police officers using a chokehold for allegedly resisting arrest, Roof simply walked with policemen with dignity and grace after his apprehension.

Garner died an hour later after the arrest of selling untaxed cigarettes. The officer who choked him also got away free as the court blamed Garner's poor health as his cause of death.

Meanwhile, Roof grins nonchalantly to officers after his arrest for a few hours after killing nine innocent black people without cause. He obviously has nothing to fear of the arrest.

In another troubling and heartrending comparison, a picture of a frowning Roof is shown beside a smiling boy named Tamir Rice. Jerrard Peters, a writer at Providence University College explains that Tamir Rice, a 12-year-old black kid was shot dead by police after carrying what turned out to be a toy gun in a playground.

In a separate report of BBC, Tamir was shot 'within two seconds' of police arrival.

Roof on other hand was taken into custody by the police wearing a bullet proof for his protection, after killing 9 black people.

More images spreading online tend to ask why white suspects were often described as crazy, mentally unstable instead of being branded as racist and terrorist.

This was explicitly expressed by the Daily Show's Jon Stewart who spoke sensitively about his frustration about the way Roof was talked about as "crazy" rather than as a terrorist.
