After his hit with the critics and the box office on Skyfall, Daniel Craig is set to play James Bond again in Spectre, to be released this November. As this will be his 4th movie as 007, fans and the media are already speculating who will be the next man in the suit and tie.
Both The Telegraph and Hollywood Reporter showed the odds of the possible stars vying for the role.
One of the prime contenders for the spy role is no other than Homeland star Damian Lewis.
Over at Betfair, Lewis's odds have gone from 50/1 to 4/1. One spokesperson even said that "Damian Lewis hadn't seen any interest in the betting until this weekend, but an absolute landslide in bets has forced us to cut the odds."
"This is an unprecedented gamble, as for no apparent reason we have seen bets of up to £200 [$312] on Damian Lewis being named as the next Bond," the spokesperson said. "This could well be significant and might herald the end of Daniel Craig as the world's most famous spy."
Lewis expressed his interest in becoming 007 by jokingly saying in 2013 that Skyfall "paved the way perfectly for a red-headed Bond," referring to his Scottish heritage. He shared with Esquire that it would be "wonderful" if he could play the lead.
However, Lewis is only second to the leading contender-Idris Elba.
In fact, a spokesperson from Betfair even said that although Lewis is gaining momentum as a potential James Bond, for a long time Elba had a "foregone conclusion."
Elba, currently 5/2, is still ahead of the race, then comes Lewis, followed by Tom Hardy (4/1), Henry Cavill (5/1) and Michael Fassbender (7/1).
Earlier this year, Cinema Blend reported on what producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson had to say about the future of the role. They commented that Daniel Craig has an "open-ended contract," implying that he can decide which films to do on a case-to-case basis.
