iPod Touch 6 Generation: Release Date in September Confirmed or No More iPod in the Future?

Tech giant Apple is set to reveal the iPod Touch 6th Generation in September as it will be launched alongside Apple's new iPhone, a report from Master Herald stated on Thursday. The report said that some of the features of iPod Touch 6th Generation are combined with the highlights of its predecessor, the iPod Touch 5th Generation, which was released in 2012.

According to the same report, the soon-to-be-released Apple iPod Touch 6th Generation will have the usual build of an iPod. However, the report disclosed that the device will have improved features that will likely be converged with Apple's iPhone, making it like a two-in-one device.

One of the features that Apple iPod Touch 6th Generation will have is Apple Pay, the company's "paperless" payment system. Master Herald further reported that aside from the water-resistant and Siri features, the device will also have additional specs that aim to improve the entertainment experience of Apple users, which Apple claims will help capture their target market.

Apple's media player will reportedly be sold at $250 to $300, respectively. Apple iPod Touch 6th Generation will be powered by A9 microprocessor, a chipset found in Apple's iPhone 6, which is faster and stable.

However, with these developments, speculations as to whether or not iPod Touch 6th Generation will be the Apple's last media player to be launched has been doing rounds in the community forums and blogging sites.

Apple Insider reports that the iPod product category in Apple's website has been discreetly removed by the company, a move that is indicative of Apple's attempt to gradually phase out its media player. According to the same website, iPod's poor and decreasing sales have caused a blow to Apple's financial status as the device did not give enough profit to the company as expected.

Since 2012 there has been no major updates made to iPod and now that Apple is poised to launch its first music streaming service which, by the way, can be accessed using iPhones, some speculate that it is designed to eventually replace and eliminate the iPod product line.
