Sci-fi fans get ready, because this summer's Terminator movie might be the biggest yet. Terminator 5, or Terminator: Genisys, opens in cinemas 1st of July, and according to The Guardian, James Cameron gives the movie a surprising seal of approval.
Cameron, director of the first two Terminator movies, says anyone who likes the Terminator films will definitely love this one, notes Forbes.
"I feel like the franchise has been reinvigorated, like this is a renaissance," said the Avatar director. "The new film, which I think of as the third film [in the series], you see [Arnold Schwarzenegger] take the character even further."
"I had no idea what to expect sitting down, I had no involvement in making this film," added Cameron, as reported by The Guardian. With these statements, fans can anticipate that this release is stronger than the past two.
Basically, Terminator: Genisys is the 'reboot' of the entire Terminator series and the start of a new trilogy, Screen Rush reports. 'Thor: The Dark World' director Alan Taylor directs the feature film, while Arnold Schwarzenegger returns to portray the classic T-800 but in a different timeline. 'Game of Thrones' star Emilia Clarke will be portraying the new Sarah Connor, who has been raised by a version of the T-800 since she was a teen. Kyle Reese, played by Jai Courtney, is sent back by John Connor (Jason Clarke) to save his mother.
With these in mind, what should fans expect from the upcoming Terminator movie? And does James Cameron call Terminator: Genisys the real part three of the series?
Terminator makes a big comeback, as the series experienced serious loss from its 2009 release. Based on a report by Cinema Blend, the last Terminator movie, Terminator Salvation, unfortunately flopped in the box office, having only gained $125 million in domestic sales. Sales significantly crawled and wasn't able to compensate the movie's $200 million price tag.
Will the Terminator: Genisys be bolder, bigger, and more fresh? Find out as it opens worldwide this July 1.
