After the global success of "Furious 7," a sequel to the action film has been confirmed and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is reportedly part of the cast.
According to The Collider, the 43-year-old has revealed he will be joining the next film. During a press conference the former WWF wrestler was asked if his character Hobbs will be appearing in the next movie.
Q: They announced Furious 8. Is Hobbs going to be in it?
DWAYNE JOHNSON: Of course. It can't go on without Hobbs.
In addition to giving fans another reason to look forward to the next film installment, The "San Andreas" actor mentioned that there are on-going talks regardinga possible spinoff.
Talk of a Hobbs-centere film began after the release of the sixthfilm and according to The Rock, there is "interest" in developing the movie.
"JOHNSON: We all are interested in it. I just had a big conversation with the studio. So we'll see. I still think for me personally we've created a little bit of space for him in 7 and the gauge is set for what the audience will want. That's my take on it, you know, but a lot of other people have to have input."
While the statement doesn't confirm the film will happen, it does indicate that there is still a possibility. However, with no official news, fans will have to wait and see.
In an analysis by SlashFilm, Hobbs has definitely brought something to the franchise but a lot of the appeal of the Interpol officer is they way he interacts with other stars, specifically Tyrese Gibson (Roman) and Ludacris (Tej). If the comic relief and relation the character has to Vin Diesel (Dom Toretto) is removed, it remains to be see how the character will develop.
Cinema Blend reports that aside from Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson, it's likely that other stars like Michelle Rodriguez, Ludacris and Tyrese will return but the most unsure would be Jordana Brewster. In addition, franchise newcomer Kurt Russell is also another character that offers a lot of potential in terms of storyline.
"Furious 8" is scheduled to hit the theaters in April 2017.
